Nametso Dorothy Phonchi, who also goes by the moniker – ‘Poetess Phopho’ is a spoken word poet from Lobatse, Botswana. A prolific performer, Nametso is well known in Gaborone as she has performed poetry at several venues across Botswana, including the International Women’s day poetry event in 2012, Gaborone’s 1st and 2nd annual Multilingual Poetry Festival in 2012 and 2013, Poetry against Poverty in 2014, the Maitisong Festival in 2015 and the Maun International Arts festival at the end of 2015. She has also participated in mixed poetry and photography exhibitions including the Tshwetso Poetry and Photography project, which was hosted by the Botswana Society for the Arts and South East Entertainment.

Nametso is also a prolific writer, and her work has been published in local newspapers in Botswana, such as the Mmegi Monitor and The Global Post, as well as global online platforms like the Kalahari Review. Currently studying a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences at the University of Botswana, Nametso is also a Mandarin Chinese student at the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana. Her spoken word performances are now available online.
